On July 20th 2016 at 04:00 a.m., Morganton Department of Public Safety responded to a structure fire at 607 Alexander Avenue. Upon arriving on scene, public safety officers found that all occupants were out of the residence. The residence was fully involved on the Northwest end and flames were coming out of the roof. The fire spread rapidly through the structure within minutes and heat from the fire melted vinyl siding from a nearby house.
Burke County EMS and the Burke County Rescue Squad responded to assist firefighters with rehabilitation and to treat any injuries. The fire was brought under control within 45 minutes and was declared out within two hours. Firefighters and investigators were on scene for over three more hours conducting overhaul to ensure the fire did not rekindle. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the family members, who were displaced by the early morning blaze. There were no injuries related to the fire and the cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
