On August 11, 2016 at approximately 11:53 p.m., Officer Puckett observed a Silver SUV on S Sterling St near E Fleming Dr.  Officer Puckett initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle for a traffic violation and made contact with the driver, Kenneth Eugene Hamilton, who was driving while revoked and had an open container of Bud Light.  Officer Huffman responded to the scene and used K-9 Shrek to conduct an open air sniff on the exterior of the vehicle.  The driver, Hamilton, and the front seat passenger, James Brandon Tate, were asked to step from the vehicle. Shrek alerted on the driver’s side door to the presence of the odor of narcotics. K-9 Shrek was then placed inside the vehicle and alerted to the area of the gearshift for the presence of the odor of narcotics.  During a subsequent search of the gearshift area by Officer Huffman she located 10 grams of crack cocaine and nine hydrocodone 5mg.  Both subjects were placed under arrest for Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, or Deliver Schedule II (Cocaine) and Possession of Schedule II (Hydrocodone).  The Burke County Narcotics Task Force was contacted for further investigation and responded to the scene.

 

Kenneth Eugene Hamilton with charged with Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, or Deliver Schedule II (Cocaine), Possession of Schedule II (Hydrocodone), Open Container, Driving While Revoked, and tail light violation. Hamilton was placed in Burke Catawba Detention Facility under a $10,000 secure bond and has an initial court appearance on August 12, 2016.
