On April 21st at approximately 3:30 pm, Morganton Public Safety Officers participated in a license checking station on Hogan Street, Near Cross St. 

PSO Holland observes a Black Chrysler 300 pull up to the checking station.  The driver produced his license as requested.  PSO Holland identified the driver as Frank E. Caldwell (DOB-06/14/1948) of Morganton, NC. 

When Caldwell produced his license, PSO Holland noticed a strong odor of Marijuana coming from the vehicle.  PSO Holland asked Caldwell to exit his vehicle and conducted a probable cause search.  PSO Holland located several, Marijuana “blunts” in a small bag.  During a search of the vehicle, PSO Holland discovered a pill bottle containing 48 dosage units of Hydrocodone (that were not prescribed) and 14.2 gm of Marijuana.  $735.00 in cash and the illegal drugs were seized.

The quantity of Hydrocodone pills was probable cause to arrest and charge Caldwell with Trafficking Opiates. 

Caldwell was charged with:

-Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver a Schedule VI Controlled Substance (F)(Marijuana) 

-Trafficking Opiates (Felony)

-Maintaining a Vehicle for the Purpose of Distributing Illegal Substances. (Felony)

Caldwell’s bond is $50,000 secured with an initial appearance in Burke County District Court 04/23/2018
