Morganton PSO M. Coward was dispatched to Walmart regarding a larceny of food.  When PSO Coward arrived, he spoke with a loss prevention officer, who pointed out the suspects, a white male and white female.

The suspects fled from the store and into a dark Chevy Colorado Truck.  PSO Coward gave chase as the suspects travelled through the parking lot at a high rate of speed, crashing through a chain link fence leading to the old Henredon Furniture Warehouse.

PSO Coward chased the suspects as they travelled behind the warehouse, before exiting the vehicle and running into the wooded area.

A description of the suspects was announced over the radio and responding officers were able to quickly establish a perimeter in the Hopewell Rd, and Golf Course Rd area.  PSO Huffman and her K9 partner Jaros arrived on scene and began a track.  The area both suspects fled into was heavily wooded with thick vegetation.  Fresh footprints were discovered in a creek along with a discarded backpack.  Jaros tracked for approximately 30 minutes, close to one (1) mile and discovered a male suspect, hiding.
